1. Curtis McHardy, born 1962, grew up in Guaico Tamana in Trinidad and Tobago. My earliest concept of nature was the outside world beyond the reach of my parents’ watchful eyes. I lived on a 22-acre estate where my family grew cocoa, coffee, bananas, and oranges. Everything that was relevant to me took place there. As a young boy I spent most of my time fishing, swimming in the rivers, and picking all the fruits I could eat. It was the place where all of his boyish adventures began. However, all of that came to a halt when my family migrated to New York in 1974. Only later would I discover the profound aesthetic and spiritual impact the natural world had on my life.

McHardy began his professional career in New York City in                          1987 as a fashion stylist. Later, as a Creative Director for Fashion Editorials for American and European publications, his love for photography took root and began to grow in this environment. Roots and Culture documents part of that journey.

Curtis McHardy’s photographic work includes imagery from a variety of natural and man-made environments found throughout the world. His lens captures the spirit of humanity, while radiating the inner energy of stationary objects. The most vibrant of human scenes, indicative of everyday life in diverse countries across the globe, are encapsulated in his images. His impeccable photographic eye continually finds the extraordinary in ordinary aspects of existence. He photographs architectural structures, natural landscapes, and human subjects.
